Nancy Soontiens award Tertia Hughes Prize
Nancy Soontiens, currently post-doc in EOAS was awarded one of twoTertia Hughes Memorial Prizes for Best Thesis.Her thesis:"Stratified flow over topography: Steady nonlinear waves, boundary layer instabilities and crater topography" was completed at Waterloo.
Doug Polson wins President's Award
We are pleased to announce that Doug Polson, the technical supervisor in EOAS, has been awarded the UBC President's Staff award for creativity and innovation. The award, which includes a cash prize of $2,000, recognizes staff members who demonstrate outstanding achievement and excellence within the UBC Community.
William W. Hsieh announced winner of John Patterson medal
At the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society's 2014 congress in Rimouski, the winner of the John Patterson medal for distinguished service in Meteorology was announced. The medal will be presented to William W. Hsieh in Vancouver in early fall by the assistant deputy minister for the Meteorological Service of Canada. See website for the Patterson medal.
Paul J. Harrison announced winner of Timothy R. Parsons medal
At the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society's 2014 congress in Rimouski, the winner of the Timothy R. Parsons award for excellence in Ocean Sciences was announced.The medal will be presented to Paul J. Harrison in Vancouver by the assistant deputy minister for Fisheries and Oceans (DFO). This award was established by DFO to recognize a Canadian scientist for outstanding lifetime contributions to multidisciplinary facets of ocean sciences or for a recent exceptional achievement, while working within a Canadian institution. Oliver Field School Shell undergraduate mapping prize winners for 2013W
The instructors of UBC's Geological Field School in Oliver, BC are pleased to announce this year's winners of the Shell Undergraduate Mapping Prize: Kate Jillings, exchange student from the UK; Jiaopu Li, Geological Engineering; Britta Neumann, Geology; and Dave Nuttall, Geology Major.
