Dr. Suttle, Wins Fellowship in the American Academy of Microbiology
Congratulations to Curtis Suttle who has been elected to Fellowship in the American Academy of Microbiology in recognition of his "excellence, originality, and creativity in the microbiological sciences".

Great news -- Christian has been awarded a Killam fellowship for his sabbatical next year.
Donation from Shell Canada to support Geological Field School
Through funding from the Shell Campus Ambassador Program (CAP), UBC's Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences (EOAS) was able to purchase digital topographic contour data to update the base maps that Field School students work with every year. Starting in May 2014, students will work with the updated maps.
Shell Graduate Student Mapping Prize winners for 2013
The following graduate students were awarded Shell Mapping Prizes for excellence in geological mapping for 2013. Sergio Gamonal, Graham Leroux, Matt Manor and Irene del Real.
Student award: Marianne Haseloff
PhD student Marianne Haseloff won a Outstanding Student Paper Award in the cryosphere section of AGU for her poster entitled: Margin migration of ice streams.
Professor Marc Bustin receives the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists' most prestigious award
Marc Bustin has been awarded the Stanley Slipper Gold Medal. This Medal was established in 1989 as the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists' most prestigious award. It is named for Mr. Stanley E. Slipper (1890-1982) who was the Alberta Society of Petroleum Geologists first President and a pioneer of early exploration efforts in Alberta. The award recognizes innovations and contributions related to petroleum exploration research as well as the teaching, training and mentoring of explorationists.
