Philippe Tortell wins Peter Wall Institute Wall Scholar Award for 2014-15

Philippe was one of only 17 faculty accross all of UBC to win this award.The Wall Scholars Research Award is available to UBC Faculty members to spend one year in residence at the Peter Wall Institute, in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.

Dr. David Archer wins Peter Wall Institute Award for 2014-15

David Archer from University of Chicago, one of the world's most distinguished climate scientists, will be visiting EOAS again next winter as a Peter Wall Institute International Visiting Research Scholar. (UBC Host Scholar: Dr. Philippe Tortell)

Brendan Smithyman, Ron Clowes and Esther Bordet's paper "New geophysical models for subsurface velocity structure in the Nechako-Chilcotin plateau from 2.5-D waveform tomography"has been selected as the next Canadian Journal of Earth Sciences Editor's Choice for 2014. See the version as-accepted.

Dr. Oldrich Hungr wins 2012 Best Paper Award

Dr. Oldrich Hungr has won the 2012 best paper award in the Landslides Journal for the article'Numerical modeling of debris avalanche propagation from collapse of volcanic edifices' by R. Sosio, G.B. Crosta and O. Hungr.

Dr. Barbara Scott Smith awarded the GAC Duncan R. Derry Medal

Dr. Barbara Scott Smith, an Adjunct Professor at EOAS, has been awarded theGAC Duncan R. Derry Medal. This highest distinction of the GAC's MineralDeposits Division is awarded annually to the outstanding economic geologistin Canada in recognition of the skill and stature as a professional economicgeologist and also for public contributions to the science field. Dr. ScottSmith is awarded for her contribution to the success of diamond explorationand mining in Canada and training of Canadian kimberlite geologists.
