Reporting to the Monitoring & Compliance Panel (M & C Panel) Program Manager, this position is responsible for i) implementing a three-year M & C Panel initiative to improve Chinook and Coho catch monitoring in recreational and aboriginal fisheries in the southern waters of the Strait of Georgia and the Fraser Basin; and ii) supporting the Program Manager by providing secretariat support to the M & C Panel.

The University of California (Davis) Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC) is recruiting for a full time Assistant Project Scientist with particular expertise in:
(a) Long Term Data Management and Analysis - Collating, storing, validating, managing and analyzing the accumulated and ongoing data collection in the Tahoe basin. The candidate will analyze the data for both long-term (multidecadal) and short-term (multi-year) trends, and directly interact with TERC field and laboratory staff.
(b) Hydrologic Optics - expertise in aquatic optics, for both clear water and highly colored water conditions. He/she will maintain and develop TERC’s program on optical properties of natural waters. This currently includes data from continuous recording stations, profiling instruments, remotely sensed data and the application of light models. The calibration of optical instruments, particularly for CDOM, will be an important element of this work.

The application process for the 2017-2018 Canadian Society of Exploration Geophysics Foundation (CSEGF) Scholarships has begun. I have attached a CSEG Recorder article highlighting last year's recipients.
In order to qualify for an award, students must be enrolled at a Canadian university in an academic program leading to a geophysics career in industry, teaching or research. Scholarships, $2,000 for university students and $1,000 for technology students, are awarded on the basis of academic performance, financial need, interest in geophysics and extra-curricular activities.

Fellowship Opportunities – Singapore
As discussed at the Commonwealth Science Conference in June, the Royal Society and the National Research Foundation in Singapore (NRF) are working together to promote opportunities for collaboration across the Commonwealth.
We are therefore delighted to announce that the NRF has established a new Post-doctoral International Collaborative Fellowship for the Commonwealth. Up to ten Post-doctoral Fellowships will be awarded to do research in either Oceans or Sustainable Cities, two of the themes of the Conference. The Fellowships will be based in a Singapore institution. Details of the scheme and the supervising team are available here.
