A Graphic Design Revolution for Scientific Conference Posters

Last week, NPR’s "All Things Considered" covered an unusual topic: Scientific conference posters. For the first time in decades, scientists are rethinking the traditional design of the posters they make to share their research at meetings. This sudden spotlight on what was always a mundane part of scientific discourse has launched a conversation about the need for basic art and design skills for scientists.

Sessional Position, Department of Physical Sciences, Thompson Rivers University

DUTIES

The Department of Physical Sciences at Thompson Rivers University invites applications for an eight month sessional lecturer position in the field of geology beginning September 1, 2019. Preference will be given to candidates who have a proven record of excellence teaching undergraduate courses in Geology. Responsibilities will include delivery of lectures and laboratories in the following courses:

Fall 2019:
GEOL 1110 – Introduction to Physical Geology (2 lectures, 4 laboratory sections)

Winter 2020:
GEOL 2050 - Geological Time (1 lecture, 1 lab section)
GEOL 2100 - Mineralogy: Properties, Identification, Occurrences and Uses (1 lecture, 1 lab section)

Thompson Rivers University is located in Kamloops, British Columbia. The city has population of about 85,000 people, and is just the right size to offer rich cultural experiences and outdoor activities.

A Ph.D. in geology or related discipline is required. Candidates must be committed to education and have teaching experience at the post-secondary level as well as strong communication skills.
